Well we've been back from Las Vegas for a week and I've already decided I think I want to go back in the spring.
We stayed at the MGM, our room was just ok. I thought the shower head was a bit too low, it was an excellent height for washing my dick since it was only about three feet up. I think it was designed for extremely short people, I had to actually kneel in the tub to wash my hair. We went to KA which was amazing, not quite as Cirque as I would have liked but stunning visuals and an amazing stage. Also saw Mystere again, I have a new appreciation for the muscle dudes and their physical abilities.
We finally went to the Hard Rock and the Palms, not really my cup of tea but it was good to see where the hip (or where so called hip people) hang out. I finally got to see the Depeche Mode leather jacket at Hard Rock that people have mentioned. I don't recommend eating at the Pink Taco as the food was crap even by Hard Rock standards. The Palms actually made me uncomfortable the place just oozed young money, we decided not to hit the Playboy Club as we were getting a ton of attitude from the door people. I guess if you really want to go clubbing Vegas may have some great clubs but seriously everybody in the lines looked like douche bags so Allison and I decided to take a pass.
We finally saw the Star Trek experience, thought the Klingon was awesome, we affectionately named him Brian the Klingon (we never told him that) and I got drunk off a complementary Warp Core Breech (five shots yo!). So I kept Allison entertained that afternoon. Also saw the Elvis statue outside the Hilton. Rode to the top of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris, I actually almost got ill on the elevator (fear of heights) was happy when we got down.
Only a couple of disappointments besides the shower that gave me a sparkling clean dong, we still didn't get down to Fremont Street, should have stayed at the Mirage again (man I love that hotel), and we should have seen O. We also need to make sure that there isn't a convention as the city was a bit too crowded.
Next trip I will see O, and Penn and Teller, and hopefully make it to Fremont. All in all a great trip, can't wait to go back.
In another music related post, itunes is offering a kinda groovy song for download this week by a band called Midnight Juggernauts. It's compared to Daft Punk meeting Bowie, it's interesting and free. You also might want to check out the other free download by a girl going by the name A Fine Frenzy, I'd best describe it pretty pop with female vocals. Once again it's free so you can't beat that with a stick.
I also really love this new Editors video...
I really want to buy it for my ipod but it's not available yet.
So I bought the Blaqk Audio CD (both the name of the band and the album's name are pretty retarded in my opinion), the music (or is that musiqk?) is pretty good.
But I have to wonder how many untalented new synth bands inspired by this project I will now have to suffer through.
*edited since I guess I wasn't clear, I do think the music is pretty awesome, great production quality and bouncy synths.
Its been weird this whole summer is going by in a blur, I'm overwhelmed by work learning how to manage our storage and backup solutions. Still counting down the days until we go to Vegas, a little over three weeks to go... I have the Cirque show tickets purchased, I'm really worried about the overall let down when the trip is over since almost three months have gone into the planning, yeah I'm not known for compulsive behavior.
Also as a side note the new Editors album has become the soundtrack to my life for the past month, that disc is in one word incredible.
Hey Internets how are you doing? Sorry for the long time no speak. I guess ever since my co-worker gave his notice it’s kind of forced me to buckle down and learn his responsibilities.
You’re a good friend Internets; I hope you’ll still be around someday when I have more free time to hang out.
I ran a 5K yesterday (The Rock & Roll Rookie Run) and I'm getting closer and closer to a personal goal. I ran the race yesterday in 25:27. So I was running 8:12 miles, so I just need to shave off a couple more seconds each mile and I'll be running an 8 minute mile.
I would love to run a 7 minute mile, but like Allison said that would probably require a true lifestyle change, and I really don't think I can commit any more time to training, or changing my diet any more dramatically.
Mike, Jess, Allison and I went up to Appleton to run the Sole Burner 5k (Mike didn't run he came up to support us). I finished in 26:19, I still think we all finished about a minute or so faster than the posted time since it was pretty bunched up in the beginning and wasn't chip timed.
We then got to see Sarah and Dave; I still can't believe how long it had been since I had seen them both. Also after a tour of their new house I soon realized how overpriced the Madison home market is.
Later that night Bill met up with us, we went roller skating (not Sarah and Dave) to begin Pam and my Birthday celebration, and before I knew it I was drunk singing along with Journey in a bar.
This birthday seriously ranks as probably my best ever; I only wish it could have lasted longer!
Well I was very nearly involved in the fatal car accident on the beltline this morning. I don't really have much to say about it, just that I think I need to appreciate life, my wife, and my loved ones a bit more from now on.
I think I know a really great tradition I may start with a couple of friends. I think at the beginning of the year I will give my closest friends the weirdest calendars that I can find, but they have to promise to keep them up at their work cubes for the entire year.
For example I am really hard to buy Christmas/Birthday presents for, so I suggested to Mike and Jess that I wouldn't mind getting the Veronica Mars calendar I saw at the mall. I like the show, so I figured the calendar will also be a neat way to express my fandom.
Only problem is that almost every month has a picture of some adolescent dude posing in it, which makes me look a bit "strange" to my co-workers. It has made for some awkward moments between co-workers when they ask me to explain the calendar. This month Wallace is looking down at me, with his come hither eyes...
Saturday night after a few libations scarymike challenged me to a foot race. After much discussion we have decided that sometime in October we will race each other up Bascom Hill (that was as far as Mike was willing to run as he told me he was a sprinter). To the victor $50 will be awarded, and the loser will eat crow. Since I'm a total and complete bastard I'm holding him to this drunken bet.
Mike thinks his Ninja training will assist him but I have assured him I will be far out of his reach, and throwing stars, bow staffs, swords, and nunchakus are not allowed. I know Robb is taking side bets on the action and will be up from Chicago I don't what kind of odds he is giving Mike. I think this should be a pretty interesting race, as Mike was sobering up he started thinking about where he could buy cigarettes to keep me away from my training regime.
As October approaches we will firm up the dates as I would like to have spectators to cheer us on.
This week a co-worker and I have been obsessed with this Family Guy clip.
Every time we see each other we yell Yeah! and pump our fist in the air. It now has been crossing over into my personal life as I have started doing it around Allison.
So I'm driving down the road minding my own business but the car in front of me is going excruciatingly slow. I can't pass them since everyone is swooping over to the left lane to pass by me and Mr. Slowpoke.
When I finally get the opportunity to pass I take a glancing look over to see if the person is on a cell phone or busy looking over at a child in the passenger seat... only to see the guy furiously digging in his nose and then pulling out a humongous booger and staring at it, totally oblivious to everything else.
It looked like a glob of tapioca pudding on the end of his finger, for reals mang.
Well I was pretty accurate about the time increase in the Shamrock Shuffle last weekend; my 5k time went up a little more than a minute. Kind of a bummer but it could have been so much worse. So I've now started training for the Crazy Legs which is 8k. I guess I'm also going to do a 5k on my birthday up in Appleton called the Sole Burner. I think signing up for races is keeping me interested in running right now since I lost focus for almost 3 months during the colder months.
I was able to run four miles yesterday up hills and into the wind, so if I really knuckle down I should be prepared for the Crazy Legs run. I'm actually really looking forward to this one, no strollers are allowed and they have a staggered start so I shouldn't be tripping over a bunch of people. This will also be a good indicator for how I might do in a 10k when I finally attempt the longer distances.
I really wanted to try and tackle a marathon this year but it just isn't realistic. I'm way out of shape and my endurance is shot. I've decided I just need to concentrate on accomplishing a 10k and then maybe I can think about a half marathon.
I've started the training regime for the next 5k that I will be running, and honestly (and not surprisingly) I have lost a step in these last few months of my limited training. In October I could easily run a sustained brisk pace (7.5 miles an hour) on a treadmill for 5 miles. Now I run 6.7 miles an hour and after 2 miles I'm just about totally spent.
I figure if I recommit for the next 2 and half weeks I'll have a drop off from my previous times but I hope to only finsh a minute or so slower than my last event. Considering how much I did slack these last couple of months a minute increase would be respectable.
Then the true test will be finding another race to run in mid-late April, to see if I can make even more improvements and shave that minute back off.
So Allison and have talked about running in the Shamrock Shuffle. Do you think it would be in poor taste if I ran with a Shillelagh and cracked some skulls as I ran the course?
I'm not Irish but if I carried a Shillelagh it might give me a bit more cred. Plus I figure I could hold back at least 15 runners if I threaten them with a big stick, so that should improve my overall finish.
